How Gravity Belt Thickening Works:

In Gravity Belt Thickening (GBT), the sludge solids concentration is increased by allowing the water (or filtrate) to drain from the sludge under gravity through a permeable medium, which is a moving belt. Along the length of the porous belt, the sludge solids form a layer on the belt surface as water drains through it.

GBT is a low-pressure process where the belt is continuously recirculated, similar to a classical conveyor belt. The thickened solids are allowed to fall off the end of the belt into a collector vessel, often assisted by a scraper. Meanwhile, the filtrate is collected in a sump.

It's important to note that GBT achieves a lower dry solids concentration compared to a belt filter press, as it relies solely on gravity for drainage. Belt filter presses, in contrast, use pressure to squeeze water from the sludge, resulting in higher dry solids concentration.
