Product Description

The design of MBBR incorporates multiple components that work together to enhance the efficiency of the technology. First, the process takes place in an aeration tank (or aeration basin). The overall dimensions of the aeration tank depend on the type and volume of wastewater to be treated. The influent enters the aeration tank at the beginning of the treatment process. The second component is the media, which consists of the aforementioned free-floating bio-carriers that can occupy up to 70% of the aeration tank volume. Third, the aeration grid is responsible for facilitating the movement of the media within the aeration tank, ensuring maximum contact between the carriers and the wastewater while supplying oxygen to the tank. Finally, a sieve retains all the carriers within the aeration tank, preventing the plastic carriers from escaping during the aeration process.

Although several different operational methods exist, they all utilize the same design components. The continuous-flow method involves the continuous inflow of wastewater into the tank, while treated water is discharged through the sieve at an equivalent flow rate. The intermittent aeration method operates with alternating aeration and non-aeration cycles, enabling both aerobic and anoxic conditions. The Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) method is carried out in a single reactor, where multiple treatment steps are performed sequentially, and the treated water is removed before the cycle starts again. Large-diameter submersible mixers are commonly used as the mixing method in these systems.

How mbbr work

Unlike the polishing process, the MBR is used as a tertiary water treatment step that has no return of active biomass to the biological process. Currently, most MBR processes in commercial places today make use of the membrane as a filter which rejects all solid materials developed in the natural process.

This helps result in a disinfected and clarified product effluent.
